In honor of National Water Safety Day, Phoenix firefighters from Fire Station 31 will reunite with a family who experienced a near drowning.

The Damore family will share their testimony following a water emergency that resulted in them calling 911. Two years ago, Matt Damore and his two sons were playing in the pool one evening when the unimaginable happened. As they played games in the pool, Matt kept a close eye on his children. Matt was stunned to find his 6-year-old son at the bottom of the pool after just seconds of taking his eyes off him. Immediately pulling him from the water and performing live saving measures, the Damore’s called 9-1-1. Phoenix firefighters quickly arrived on scene to ensure the child was okay. For safety precautions, the child was transported to the hospital and stayed overnight.

The Damore family and Phoenix Fire want to remind the community that drownings can happen at any time, anywhere. Members of the media are invited to the address below to interview the Damore family and members of the Phoenix Fire Department about the importance of water safety and Phoenix Fire’s Drowning Zero Campaign.
